    • owners complain of severe respiratory distress and coughing
    • historical signs of right heart failure will likely be present
  3. Physical Examination:
    • increased rate and depth of respiration
    • harsh lung sounds with crackles on respiration
    • signs of elevated right heart preload
      • jugular venous distention
      • positive hepato-jugular reflux
      • hepatomegaly
      • ascites
    • cardiac auscultation may be normal or a split S2 may be noted
